I voted Liberal Democrat, but does that make me a Liberal Democrat? I don’t know the answer to my own question, which is why I am posing it to the world. Not that I expect a definitive answer, but you’re quite welcome to try, dear reader!

“This Parliament does not represent us. We demand fair votes now.
There must never again be an election under this broken system.”

The British people have spoken – We’re just not entirely sure what they said. I’m paraphrasing David Milliband on BBC Radio 4 this morning. One thing is clear: first past the post has failed its only defenders. The Conservative Party do not have a clear mandate to govern, as they have failed to win a a majority, despite being the largest party in the new Parliament. No one won – the voters in the British General Election have delivered a Hung Parliament, and what happens next is anyone’s guess. This could take a while to sort out, so pass the popcorn.

So the polls open in just a few hours now, and the British People will decide, but please once and for all this time let us change the unfair voting system. Vote Liberal Democrat.

The Guardian has finally decided to throw its weight behind the Liberal Democrats with their full endorsement. About time!
But while it is very welcome in my opinion – is it too late and too close to polling day to really make a difference?

I agree with Nick, do you agree with Nick? Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats are in dreamland this weekend after a huge post-debate surge for the LibDems. Will they be able to keep this momentum up until the election and will it translate into a hung parliament? (Or a Liberal Democrat government, dare we dream!?) It all remains to be seen, but it has certainly turned what looked like a boring election into a very interesting one. As Nick Clegg himself put it, “all bets are off.” And so they are as all polls including youGov show a very strong showing from the “third party.”

When we type a query into any search engine these days most of us probably take it for granted that the results we get will be somewhat related to our search term. Long before the internet existed, the the pioneering work of Karen Sparck Jones was laying foundations for giants like Google and Yahoo to provide their search engines today.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland has a parliamentary democracy, which means that Government is voted into power by the people, to act in the interests of the people. The Westminster Parliament is in fact the oldest parliamentary democracy in the world.
